I've noticed since I started playing my new horn as a comeback player I seem to be generating quite a bit of water that drips out of the bell. I don't seem to remember this happeing with my old horn in the past. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Maybe I it always used to happen but I never noticed? What do you think? |

A couple of reasons:
The environment you're playing in could be causing a lot of condensation inside the horn. I get more spray out of the bell when I play outdoors in the cold.
Your embouchure could be letting more moisture into the horn.
Could be normal moisture that makes it past the spitvalves. If you don't have a valve on the third slide, you might want to get one installed and use it to empty any moisture that may collect there. _________________ --Matt--

This happens to me more when I play my (Schilke X3 clone) Yamaha 738. It's big with an open blow and it tends to blow more drips out the bell. |

I notice the same affliction when I look at "babes" instead of the music. |

Decent,
Maybe the juice is drippin' from your other horn. |

A respected brass tech told me that trumpets with a larger bell flair retain more condensation. That is why there is more moisture than your used to.

if it's really a bother, just drain your spit valves more often. this way, your siliva doesn't travel the length of the horn and it only goes to the leadpipe, down and sits there until it comes out.
you keep your trumpet much cleaner if you drain often, meaning most of the dirt and gunk will be in the leadpipe which can be easily cleaned via a trumpet snake.
other than that, spit coming out the other end isn't something to worry bout. happened to me a lot before, but i drain more often now, so it's all good _________________ "If brute force doesn't solve your problem, then you're not using enough!" |
