The first valve ring on the 8335RGS looks kinda scary looking. How does it compare to the regular old saddle? |

I had the same thoughts, e.g. is it large enough for my thumb, etc. But, the ring diameter is larger than the 3rd valve slide ring, and I haven't any trouble with it at all. Actually, I now prefer the 8335RGS ring to a saddle. YMMV |

The Vintage One has a ring, and it works great for me, preferred to a saddle actually. |

Why would it matter? I've had both rings and saddles and never notice one being superior or inferior to the other.

Actually, a lot of trumpets have rings rather than saddles on the first valve slide. In addition to the Vintage One, Monettes, Taylors, and perhaps some of the other high end horns have rings rather than saddles. Maybe it's the way of the future, and we should just get used to it |

actually i think my posture and playing are better with rings, yeah sounds stupid, but with out one my thumb just flops about, with the ring i can hold it how i like with my thumb at the top of the ring toutching the leadpipe. i think they look better too. i cant handle rings on the leadpipe though, i end up dropping them! not good.
have fun, sam |

I know that KevinInGeorgia and I both prefer the rings ... soon as we get a horn, the repair guy switches them out. Ring is just more...uh...comfy. _________________ Joel Thomas |

Wow, I never would have thought of this as an issue. Maybe it's the way that hold horns, but I note no difference.
