I find the concept pretty intelligent... but is it worth to pay for it? _________________ Nicolas Marcotte

I have one and I like it. I think it is worth what I payed for it seeing as though I live in an apartment and I just can't practice without it... if I do practice without it the neighbors will complain about the noise. If you absolutely can't practice because of the noise.. it is worth the money, but if you can do without it, then it's not worth the money. _________________ J. Fowler

This topic has been widely discussed on the forum previously. Try doing a search for Yamaha Silent Brass and you should find the posts. _________________ Matt Wirfel

The Silent Brass system seems to be a hit or miss tool. Some folk like it, others don't. I guess it is another instance of YMMV!
I have the most recent model, the SB9, I believe. Small preamp with a reverb and line-in jack so you can play along with a Discman or whatever. As a comeback player, I bought it in antipation of needing it to practice at night while the family sleeps, but the reality of things is I only really get to play when they are all gone anyway. Consequently, I offer mine for sale for $95.
One application I meant to try with it but never got around to is recording into the computer. It should be pretty easy to hook it headphone output to the Line-in of your soundcard and then record. Since you can monitor thru the soundcard, this would let you record your practices or compose tracks pretty simply. Of course, I have found that when it comes to recording, nothing is as simple as it sounds!

I have the current model. To tell you the truth I just use the mute. I rarely use the whole system. |
