Look Adam, I know you have lots of "pro" players in the Rolodex, but PM me when you're ready to send that bad boy out for a field test.
I'll be glad to give it a road test in church, big band, wind symphony, etc.
And I'll take LOTS of pictures and video! |

well ain't this all exciting and highly charged.
does changing the valve block alloy really change the way a horn sounds??
what was the original impetus for using bronze over brass, and did longevity and wear factor in.
it looks indeed very nice. i am hoping for a world beater flugel made in USA.

It does have an impact on the color, response and feel while playing the horn. It isn't a revolution, its an evolution. The reason I wanted to try it was because we had never done it. It may not be appropriate when we get to the next projects but it certainly augmented an already strong horn. The valves actually wear slightly less and seem to be a little more smooth. The test blank in my office had something like 500,000 strokes with only one oiling and was well within tolerances. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

That depends on whether or not your local music shops show any interest in selling you one. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

We are currently building two to three production models to determine that. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

Custom Reserve is what happens when we challenge ourselves in design and manufacturing a new model. In this instance, we wanted to design a horn that sounds excellent, looks as good as it sounds and was a joy for the musician to play. We were not in any way restrained by past models and were allowed to be pretty creative. I hope that all of this will be obvious when you get to try one yourself. _________________ Adam R. Getzen

The new Getzen flugelhorn is going to be great. This has been a long process of creating the sound that Adam wants while also achieving what he is looking for cosmetically. Adam and Jim have designed this horn. I've spent a lot of time the last several months playing it.
In it's current state, this is the best flugel I've ever played. It's like butter. It's not too 'airy' like Chase's flugel sound, or too 'trumpety' or bright like Maynard's flugel sound. It maintains a warm buttery tone from the pedal register to a high F. I'm pretty excited because for as good as it plays /sounds, its not finished yet! _________________ Andy Nickelsen

Better late then never. Welcome to the party. Seeing how CarolBrass has offered an "All Bronze right right down to the valve assembly" trumpet as well as giving customers the choice of what they want the knuckle material to be and all kinds of other options at a fantastic price point on every model with out much of a wait.
On a positive note you are the first American company to do anything they have not done forever. So I am glad you managed to break free of the " that is the way we have always done it" mentality.
I hope you will like wise get rid of one of the seriously flawed intonation-ly(sp) challenged models from the line up as you add the new model. Basically giving each category or marketing price point in your catalog a upgrade while holding price stable.
Anyone can make a more complicated widget or a different widget put a fancy name to it and charge a lot more for it. Anyone can put a fancy name n an object or change the cosmetics and charge more for it. What this industry or correction what American instruments builders need to learn how to do is to build a better mouse trap with out increasing the price. If increasing the price point is the only way you know how to differentiate your products in a catalog that is bloated and a market that is stagnate then you might as well stop now. IF you have to increase the price then you have already failed and you might as well shut the doors and turn out the lights. We already have enough over priced horns in the market place.
In fact given the fact that I can buy a YTR clone Flugel in Copper for under $300 their is no material you could use that would justify an increase in cost. The fact that you have not decided on the price should be a huge wake up call to all of those that think cost to purchase an item is in any way tied to the cost to produce the object. IF it was then the price would already be known!
You have the best valve assembly on any domestic made instruments period. You have great built quality. You have a few really solid designs that are seriously able to stand up against some of the best in the world. What you also have though is a catalog that is bloated with too many competing products that are out dated and less then stellar with a price point that is stupid high for the current global market place and the ever declining dollar. You have almost ZERO marketing I am guessing more people have heard about your Proteus and 3051 because of me then anything you have done on your end.
Now that you have some excitement building what are going to do next? I hope you know full well that this is not nearly enough!
I might sound like a jerk but I really hate the idea of seeing Kanstul or Getzen get swallowed up and ran out of business because both companies where clueless with regards to how to reinvent themselves so they do not get their teeth kicked in by Asian upstarts that are smart enough to do exactly what I have said domestics need to do!
I am truly happy to see you moving in a new direction! _________________ The only easy day was yesterday! |

Wow, Cap. it didn't sound at all like a jerk, it just sounded like you were being condescending and rude. Also you might try to be more concise.
although some American companies have the problem you claim your rash generalization is making you sound uninformed. There is nothing wrong with sticking with what has proven to be an incredibly effective and popular design, especially when many people who buy the product are likely to want one that is proven to work. _________________ '16 Buescher Model 15
