I got a Sam Ash sale catalog in the mail today, as happens about every week. I don't really know why they waste the postage though. I live like 1000 feet rom the store. It'd just be cheaper to walk it to my mail box while someone's one break.
Anyway, I saw in it something called the Bach "Big Apple" trumpet, which apparently is an exclusive Sam Ash item, like that one Getzen horn they carry. Anyone got info on this thing?

Here is the online description from Sam Ash:

“NYC the Big Apple home of Jazz, Broadway and great Classical music, brings you the new Bach Big Apple Trumpet. Designed in collaboration with professional musicians in NY. Bach and Sam Ash introduce the Bach Big Apple trumpet. A medium large bore, silver-plated body with gold trim, and Special Bach anniversary case. Also this limited edition instrument is finished with unique Big Apple engraving. Destined to be a collectors item. Includes Bach 3C mouthpiece. Limited quantities!”

I wonder what “professional musicians” in New York assisted with the design.

Well, I suppose I can go see if my local store has any in stock when i have a few free hours. I'll try on out and give a report in that case.

I JUST played this yesterday. A great horn! I play tested it next to four other Bach's and preferred it over all of them. GIve it a try!

How was the intonation? Does it compare in any way to a standard bach model in sound?

The "Big Apple" is the same all the other Strads, it's just a different bell design. It's the same ML body, same great Bach sound, but a slightly bigger bell flare (don't quote me on that bell flare bit, I'm a little foggy on the details). The intonation was perfect (especially the octave E's) and I felt like I had more felxibilty in the tone. I could push it either way- dark or bright- with less work. I hope this is of help to some of you. I recommend giving one a trial run. The convention price on the one I tried was $1,695. Can't wait to find a good used one in a few years.

EDIT: I almost forgot... the gold accents and apple engraving around the Bach 'logo' give it a very nice look.

I tried one at Sam Ash. Didn't like it. I can't remember why, but I thought the Xeno and few other Bach 37's I tried sounds better. I didn't think it was worth the extra money.
