I’m listening a lot to “Basie Straight Ahead” so that I can get a better feel for lead trumpet again. I follow along in the lead trumpet book. It felt so good to get through a lot of this lead book in my practice sessions in the last two nights.
Happy listening!

Seriously. Let's talk about music.
Today I've listened to tunes from:
Charles Mingus-The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Pedro Martinez Group
George Russell-The Outer View
Dexter Gordon-Sophisticated Giant
and some live Dexter Gordon on Youtube. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

Higher Ground by Dave C. Norman featuring Chuck Findley, Steve Reid, Dan Fornero, Bobby Shew, Carl Saunders, and several other great trumpet players whom I cannot recall at the moment. |

Thanks Pat - great redirect
My list is as not as hip as Pat's
The Blue Mitchell link from an earlier thread - need to add to my Blue Mitchell collection - what a great player
Doc's Carmen Fantasy from the Cincinnati Pops recording - I have listened to it so many times my wife has banned it from the house. If I could only get that sound out of my horn............. |

To feed my interest in recording industry history, I'm listening to 16 sides for Capitol by Les Paul and Mary Ford, including How High The Moon, the first recording created by overdubbing on a modified Ampex machine. Naturally, these are shellac 78s and are being played on my restored 1928 Columbia 112A gramophone. I am audiophile geekman! _________________ Eclipse Enigma Bb trumpet 2011

A 1980's approach to spotify?
Ok.... The new Lake Street Dive album, Bad Self Portraits.
Love the voice and stylings of the vocalist, Rachel Price.
Very little trumpet content, and what there is isn't exactly amazing, but still... |

Slightly tangential:
For my morning running or coffee/check email accompaniment I have started listening to the stream of KCSM. Since I live on the East Coast, I typically get to listen to Bob Parlocha finishing up his midnight shift and then enjoy Morning Cup of Jazz with Alisa Clancy. Both DJs are very knowledgeable and will not only back announce what we've just heard but will typically go through the entire list of musicians on the track. Alisa also talks about who some of those guys "used to be with" or "ended up playing with" so I get a nice jazz music education as well as listening to a lot of tunes that are not in my personal music library (yet.) |
