Hallelujah Chorus, From Handel's "Messiah." I will be performing it on the piccolo trumpet on Easter Sunday at my church.

I am listening to Laurie Frink play lead with Benny Goodman on "Down South Camp Meeting" and "Don't Be That Way" on YouTube. One of my most memorable lessons with her was bringing lead charts of Benny Goodman to a lesson and she had me take one of the charts out (just got the part) and we played through it together. She let me know that Benny rehearsed the music measure by measure. Dave Ballou had a lesson right after me and I got to meet him.

I’m listening to Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra’s “Not in Our Name.” It was recommended by my neighbor in my apartment complex, Ahnee Sharon Freeman. She plays French horn on this recording and she is a very fascinating woman to talk about big band with. Joe Daly plays tuba. I’ve had the privilege to meet him and hear him live with Hazmat Modine. Seneca Black is on trumpet.

Thanks for posting the Maynard clip. I've been a fan of his since my early teens.
I performed in a band (New Orleans style brass band) that played the opening act for one of Maynard’s gigs when I lived in Pennsylvania. When I moved to New York City, I got to hear him perform live at the Blue Note twice and the last time was four days before he died. I got to speak with him briefly after the first Blue Note gig and all that I can say is what a truly nice man.

I know this is real general and broad, but I love listening to the big band and dixieland music. Just something about it is so awesome. I've been listening to all the trumpet concertos as well.

I've been listening to the Original London concept of Jesus Christ Superstar. I just did three shows with a theater group and we have three more this weekend.
Earlier today, I was listening to CSO, Reiner - Night on Bald Mountain and Donald Byrd - Cantaloupe Island. Both awesome.
I usually make the cycle blues, rock, soul, jazz, classical, and opera and rinse and repeat. |
