Hi all:
Just recieved what I thought would be a stencil cornet on Ebay. I don't think it is. I don't have the horn in my posession, a friend (a pro player) has it to do some work on it...ok, alot!
Anyway, on the bell it says Made by Frank (something) company, Chicago.
This appears to be a very old horn. Because it says MADE BY Frank XXXX, I take it that it's not a stencil.
It's a shepherd's crook, has great compression and nice loose valves!
Thanks,
Tim
DUHHH! Forgot to ask, anyone heard of this company somewhere in brass history??? Thanks!

didn't see holton on it, but then the engraving is pretty well worn. It'd be great if it is! This dude has some major age on it!
(added later) IF it's a holton, it was (according to horntrader's site) made in 1931!
Thanks....and I'll let you know what I find out when I get it back.
Tim

Hi Tim,
There was a William Frank company in Chicago and they made some pretty good trumpets and cornets. Most of the ones I've seen have been student grade but I did try a gold plated trumpet that was pro quality, beautifully engraved and played very well. I believe the company lasted into the late 30's.

Thanks for the info, Scott. Like I said, I don't have the horn here with me...it's out for repair. HOWEVER, the word "FRANK" was in big letters...and I don't remember seeing "Holton" at all....and I know I read everything I could see. Of course, the engraving was not very deep either. IT's just the large name "FRANK". You'd expect "HOLTON"
I bet you're right! Thanks for the name, I can do an online check and see if I find a picture that matches mine.
