Hi all,
I have not been around much but nice to see things are still blowing along!
Thought a thread to post a few memories of Arnold Jacobs would be worthwhile. I only met him second-hand but I know a number of TH members had lessons and more personal interaction. How about sharing a story?
Cheers,

Although I had taken several lessons from Mr. Jacobs in the late sixties, my dear friend Roger Rocco was a friend was a long time student of Mr. Jacobs.
The Jacobs approach to playing is best embodied in Mr. Roger Rocco's blog.
Check it out.

I have many fond memories of Arnold Jacobs. He always was interested in how you were doing and how he could help. I remember many phone calls just to set up a lesson, that ended up being a lesson, because he would address whatever was bothering you at the time.
I had the pleasure of studying with Arnold Jacobs from 1994-1998.

I studied with Jake during two separate periods in the '70's. He had the ability to give each student just what they needed. If you needed to be impressed, he could do that with his encyclopedic knowledge of physiology and all of his medical contraptions. The crux of his teaching was getting the student to conceptualize sound and music and then to allow their body to realize it. He had a benevolent aura that made me feel and play better than I thought I could. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. |
