|
|
I recently purchased Malcolm McNab's "Principles of Exceptional Trumpet Playing" video from Michael Davis' Hip Bone Music. It's basically a half-hour of Macolm McNab explaining and demonstrating Stamp's exercises and concepts. Here's the link:
http://www.hip-bonestore.com/Principles_of_Exceptional_Trumpet_Playing_p/hbu020.htm
This was the best $4.95 I've spent in a long time! It's great to hear such a world-class player talk about and play through the material, and the video contained several ideas and distinctions regarding Stamp-stuff that I hadn't come across before.
I highly recommend it!

Eric - quite a bit of buzzing. Great great lesson.
I think I've bought almost every lesson from hip bone music. I can't thank Michael enough for putting these out there.
My favourite lesson was the Nick Marchione lesson on lead playing. What a sound and player.. I got a LOT from that!
Wayne says a lot of great things about aperture and playing.
All in all, check them all out... 4.95...ive spent more on a COFFEE!!! _________________ Maestro Arturo Sandoval on Barkley Microphones!

I've purchased a few of them now and the McNab one has been the most helpful by far. He explains things very clearly. Very cool. The best 5 bucks you can spend on trumpet related things in my opinion. _________________ the BURBANK |

I was lucky enough to take a couple of lessons from Malcolm. Super nice guy, always interested in what I was going through, what I was up to, and funny, we never played pedal tones, but buzzed plenty. His sound is so centered and on the money, it's phenomenal, which I didn't hesitate to mention to him. Turns out, he now spends much of his time refining his sound. His actual tone. Everything seems to come from that. That was a lesson in itself.

Did he mention anything specific that he does for this or is he going through his normal routing with the goal in mind? _________________ the BURBANK |

Are these shipped on DVD, or a download link after the purchase? |

There's a download link after purchase, but it's not automatically generated. It took a couple of days (over the weekend) for it to hit my inbox.

Happy Holidays to all my friends and colleagues! I am very pleased to announce the 4th Annual, Camp McNab Trumpet Workshop at Azusa Pacific University. The dates are July 28th-August 2nd, 2015 at Azusa Pacific University. I will post details about this year's seminar, in the coming weeks, here, on my new website (www.malcolmmcnab.com), on my professional page, and also on the Camp McNab Facebook fan page. We are anticipating a lot of interest in this year's installation of Camp McNab, so if you are interested, send in your application early. Admission will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and I look forward to hearing from you all very soon.

EXACTLY!! I wish he would have practiced things that are "actually playing the trumpet" and that he didn't do these silly time wasting endeavors. I mean honestly, he could have been a prolific TH poster if he could have only practiced "actually playing the trumpet" like Claude would have wanted. Like pedal tones. I do so many gigs where all I'm asked to play are pedal tones but I have to defer because they want pedal tones AND a wild thing, both of which I can't provide.
Sarcasm mode over: I learned a lot from the Malcolm McNab lesson, and also waste my time by buzzing daily. I know this isn't for everyone, but it works for me, in moderation and that's the key. See what works, and don't proclaim for fact that nothing else is the way and is a waste of time, because it may work for someone - within reason.
Malcolm, you are the trumpet player in the movies that made me love the instrument so much, and you are much more - I have your CD's. Incredible musician. You and Maurice Murphy. MM & Star Wars is also an indelible memory.
