|
|
Last week I installed Yosemite OS on my iMac. Ever since, none of my web addresses will stay logged in on Safari. I disabled every damn Pref that I could find that might be blocking it and I still have to log in and enter the password every time.
If I leave the forum via a link to read something else for a minute, I have to log in again - on any and all forums, home pages etc.
I can't stand it anymore!

I can't imagine that no one here uses a Mac with Yosemite, and is (or is not) dealing with the same problem. Amazing!

I'm waiting to upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks until the software I use becomes compatible.
Mavericks is currently working fine with all the software I use and I don't want to lose functionality of that software.
I'll just wait. |

I'm with Jerry. I never upgrade to the "new" version of the OS until I stop seeing all the articles and posts about "how to uninstall" "how to get around the issue with ..." etc.
Your thread is just further evidence not to upgrade yet, sorry.
Early adopters of new tech have become an army of unpaid beta testers. I've got better things to do than worry about why my "upgrade" broke everything. |

On a related note, anyone regret upgrading their iPhone from iOS 7 to iOS 8.1? I haven't gotten around to upgrading yet but think I probably will when I get the time.
Any thoughts?
Thanks. |

The only issue I have right now is with the Mail app and deleting messages. I haven't messed with it to fix it. iBooks is much improved, that's the app I use the most.

We have several iPhones in our house, and they're all working fine with the upgrade. _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS

I upgraded all of our phones and my iPad to 8.1.
They changed the way safari handles bookmarks. In previous versions when one tapped on a bookmark the bookmark list closed. Now it says open until you intentionally close it. Personally I like the old behavior, but will adapt.
However, some sites need to be updated to handle this new behavior. For instance, www.yahoo.com displays a row of icons under a larger picture. One can select an icon and the corresponding picture will show above the icon bar.
Unfortunately this doesn't work correctly if one allows the yahoo page to load and then close the bookmark list. I am pretty sure that there is a new message that safari sends out when it resizes as the bookmark bar shuts down that yahoo isn't handling yet.
The point I am intending to make is that another software pro and I both feel that Safari is crashing and hanging more often since upgrading. But it is probably the websites needing to handle new safari messages and behavior than a safari bug. |

As a programmer, I had to fix a piece of software that broke going to Yosemite. Not fun. I generally do not like Macintosh operating systems. |

I'm the OP on this thread. I solved my problem - sort of - by switching to the Firefox browser which remembers all my logins. I switched my bookmarks and I'm back in business. To hell with Safari!

My irony detector just exploded. A few years back (well whenever 10.4 came out) I happened to be doing software development at a startup. Somebody asked us to port some software we had to the Mac platform. I hadn't used one hardly at all in years, and remembered the absymal "Mac OS" flavors that preceded OS X as being especially unpleasant.
I was pleasantly surprised, actually shocked, by just how easy the port was (it's essentially a solid UNIX kernel with an actually decent window manager for a change). To make a much longer story shorter, I ended up buying a Mac within weeks of doing the port for my own personal use. Today, I've moved the entire family (including relatives that live elsewhere) to Macs. I no longer have to do emergency tech support phone calls for family when some Windows bitrot issue bites them in the &$$. Never going back.
Fair disclosure: I used to be a fan of Linux also, but it went badly wrong when it started trying to be more and more like Windows and failing at that. |

@RandyTx, I had a similar experience many years ago, when a Windows XP system update clobbered the OS, forcing me to crawl deep into the files to jury rig a restore of critical system files. Shortly afterward, we got Macs, and haven't had any trouble since.
@Bluesy, I noticed a checkbox in Safari, Preferences, Passwords, Autofill user names and passwords. This box is checked in my version, and the window shows all of my saved passwords for websites that I visit (or a value "never saved" for websites where I intentionally don't use this feature). I see you've switched to Firefox, but I wonder how this switch is set in your version of Safari? _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS
