development in my playing is the awareness of how much air is required for each note, especially when going from high notes to low notes. I would imagine that this is something that becomes instinctive over time, but are there certain exercises that are specifically designed to ingrain this awareness?
Also, what part do the tongue and lips play in this transition? _________________ Allen - 'Chops-in-Hotlanta'

I would suggest practicing lots of scales, arpeggios and intervals in order to get a better feel for the use of air. In this way you will learn to control the pitch and volume of notes in a natural and musical manner. Of course, there are many variables other than air that impact upon pitch (lip tension being an obvious one). |
