Contrary to some reviews out there, it's not a miracle product that will boost range and endurance. If it really did that, they could charge a hundred buck a tube. For me it does seem to help beat up chops get back to feeling normal, somewhat faster than using nothing. |

What do you mean by "work?" If by "work" you mean helps to prevent chapped lips then it works great, and imho it is one of the best products out there for that purpose. And yes, it also contains some other ingredients like vitamin E and arnica etc. that may help a little with lip swelling/bruising etc. after a day of hard playing. If by "work" you mean helps you to become a better trumpet or brass player or gives you significantly more range and endurance on beat up chops, then it does NOT work at all for me. |

It is a good lip balm. It is nicer feeling and better tasting than Chapstick or Carmex, and it does what it says it will do, which is protect and relieve chapped lips. I recommend you try it. Splurge -- it costs like $4.00 for a tube.
Sadly, it didn't make me sound like Phil Smith either. Bummer... |

I didn't like it very much, but my twin brother, also a trumpet player, loves it. Go figure. Like any cosmetic product, some will love it and some not so much, mostly based on your unique body chemistry. For $4 a tube, it's certainly worth giving it a shot! I think a lot of players here like it a lot. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Well in my younger days I used to really beat myself up at work sometimes and the next morning I would feel still beat up instead of having fresh chops. I found that if I used Chopsaver before I went to bed on a day that I was beat to hell then the next morning I did feel very fresh again.
So in that sense, it works. For me. Can't say what it would do for you. But for me, when I push it too much, I will use chopsaver and get a good nights sleep and feel good to go the next morning.
Chopsaver + a good nights sleep = fresh chops. For me. |

It's just lip balm. It's pretty good as lip balm, but there are a lot of them out there that are just as good at less than half the price. _________________ "Some days you get up and put the horn to your chops and it sounds pretty good and you win. I pretty much agree; it works ok, but IMO no better than Carmex, Vaseline, etc.

It works as mute cork grease in a pinch. Did you have something else in mind? _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away." |

I use chopsaver daily. It has quality ingredients, available widely (Kroger supermarket near me has both versions) ....AND it supports a fellow trumpet player that stands behind his product. It may not be for everyone (I cant put anything on my lips before I play) but it is worth trying, and worth every penny over the chemical laden "chap sticks" that are out there. _________________ Powell Custom Bb

I've been using it since before it became available to the public. A friend of mine is a very good teacher and brass tech and had a few tubes to hand out. It is very good in helping my chops recover but have found out for me not to use it before playing. _________________ Chicago Benge 33XX

Chop Saver didn't work for me, but I love Burt's Bees (Honey Lip Balm with Vitamin E). Remember that what works for one person may not work for the next person...you need to try it for yourself and see if it works for YOU. Just like horns and mouthpieces... _________________ Best Regards,

It works great for me. I don't go anywhere without a tube or two. But if you don't wanna pay that much for chapstick, you should try Avon's Care Deeply. That's the chapstick that Allen Vizzutti uses. I'm not saying that just because he uses it it's worth more than gold, but it's probably worth while if he uses it. _________________ Proverbs 15:1

I'm not a fan of heavy feeling lip balms, so I always recommend Blistex Complete Moisture to my students. _________________ --Matt--

Love this stuff. Obviously it's not going to work miracles, but it's really good. Close runners-up are probably Burt's and Jack Black. On an extreme day Blistex can help - but not too often.
I've got about a half-dozen sticks of ChopSaver around all the time. It's my go-to.
Best,
Tom |
