Is it possible to change the bells of the standard Strad horns? Obviously this would take a professional. Just wondered if anyone ever did this. I have a LR180S43. Thanks

It could be done. You might want to look into a tuneable bell option.

Yes, it can be done.
In fact, have just been trying out one tonight, a mere two hours ago!!

To anyone who has read my posts before - http://www.willspencer.org - he's back!

This repairman (and awesome trumpeter) has got deeply into customising his Bach (and many other people's as well) so that it will accept any Bach (or other) leadpipe or bell. Tonight he had 5 bells with him for us to try. They did all have different qualities and it was very interesting to try them out on the same trumpet body.

Personally they didn't do a lot for me, but I'm not a huge fan of Bach. Before the flames start - I have every respect for the make, I know a lot of people swear by them, I just find that they don't work for me.

If you are talking about changing fixed bells, you can certainly do that, as well. Bells from horns of the same bore size are interchangeable. You just need to unsolder the old one and solder on the new one.

Going from Will's experience, it is cheaper and quicker to get them from other sources.

If you know what bell you are looking for, you could always post it here and other places until you find one.
