Hi victor, Welcome to TH.
The picc is a very different horn. I know when I first tried to play one I thought why did I buy one of these.
There is a tendency to over blow the horn, which is death. Do not try to fight it, you will lose. I would recommend first just getting to know this little beast. Learn the fingerings, what the fourth valve is for and just play in the register for a while. At least for me at first I was able to gain a lot more control of the instrument that way. I still play and make up stuff in the staff, it's fun.
Don't over practice it either. If you do it will mess up your playing on the big horn. At least it did for me at first.
The picc is great to play, however it is not an easy horn to learn. Just because you can play trumpet that doesn't mean you will learn picc over night. It's not like going from trumpet to cornet to flugel. It is not that easy.
There was a previous post on music and information on piccs. Someone will come up the the web site for "The Trumpet Gearhead" or his related site It has great information. Also get "The Piccolo Trumpet Big Book" by Davil Hickman. It explains a lot.
Good luck, HTH;
Phil

For a mouthpiece try a schilke with the combination including an A cup depth and an X backbore. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |
