This is just awesome. I only took about a dozen or so lessons with Mr. Adam-- my girlfriend and I would drive out from NJ to IU for the weekend--but man, that's a sound you never forget. As soon as I heard him, it all came flooding back.
I couldn't imagine what it was like to have studied every week with him for years!
Thank you so much for posting this.

I believe that it is Mr. Adam trading with current Morehead State University Professor Greg Wing, his former student. Recorded in 1980 when Greg was either still in school or just off Buddy Rich's band. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

Jerry Hey often said if Mr. Adam moved to L.A. he would put a lot of guys out of work! _________________ Bill Bergren |

Awesome!
Wish it continued into the pronunciation. If Mr Adam was trading on the routine, was he playing it second? |

It's interesting that my college teacher graduated from IU but he never mentioned Bill Adam nor did he include Adam stuff in his routine. Come to think of it he didn't mention any teachers and at the time I was totally unaware of pedagogical lineage.
Were there other teachers at IU during Mr. Adam's tenure?

There have always been at least 3 trumpet teachers at IU, where at times during Adam's tenure there were as many as 80 trumpet majors or concentrations. After all, it is one of the world's two largest music schools (the very largest during all or most of Adam's tenure).
Some of the others who were on the trumpet faculty during Adam's tenure were: Herbert Mueller, Louis Davidson, Charles Gorham, Alan Dean, and possibly Ed Cord and Stephen Burns. I'm not exactly certain of whether Cord and Burns had tenures that overlapped with Mr. Adam and I've likely omitted some. Dominic Spera (an Adam student) also was on the jazz faculty during a good bit of Adam's tenure.
Help, cats. Crowd source this. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician
