The Chicago 1070 is a clone of the Benge Claude Gordon. I played one a few months ago and it was an awesome horn. Didn't buy it though because i have the original. The Benge, for the money the 1070 is one great buy. |

I agree with you about Kanstul. I just bought a Custom class D/Eb and think it was a much better horn than the Yamaha 6610 and B & S, as well as some others. I also play their Custom class picc. which is an excellent horn.
I'm heading down to the Portland Oregon showroom in a week or so to check out the C trumpets...I currently play a Bach 229GH with a Louisville leadpipe, so it'll be fun to see how the Kanstul's compare.
I also toured the plant in Anahein while on vacation in August. Very nice folks, and an very interesting process to see in person.
Thanks for the heads-up on the 1070...maybe my Bb needs to be replaced too??

I believe the Benge Claude Gordon is a .468 bore trumpet with a .464 "choke" in the bell.
Is the Kanstul Chicago 1070 have such a "choke", like the Benge Claude Gordon, or is it a straight .470 bore trumpet?

You are right there is a choke in the Benge and it is 464/468. Per Don Harrell at Kanstul the Chicago Big Band is 470 choked down to 464 like the Chicago 1001 or MLP model. |

I just spoke to Jack Kanstul, who told me that the 1070 is .470 all the way through.
I ordered one for a 3-day trial. _________________ John

Which of the Kanstuls would be similar to the Chicago Benge from the early 50s? |
