Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep the two screws below the 3rd Valve quiet. Whenever I finger the notes, the nuts rattle a lot. Maybe some peteroleum jelly? I dunno. Thanks in advance!

Screw them tightly against one another and they won't rattle. Hold the first nut (the one you screw on first) as you tighten the next one against it.

Try putting a tiny small O-Ring just big enough to fit on the Stop Rod. Rubber is the best thing to absorb vibrations. Put it between the nuts and try the above method of holding one and turning the other into it to where it compresses the O-Ring. Just make sure this is where you want them for the 3rd valve combination tuning assignments. It should remain very stationary after this.

If you hold the first one tight it can't turn. You can also get tiny o-rings to put on the threaded rod.

If you don't want to spend any money use the smallest rubberband you can find and wrap it around the stop nuts. Works like a charm.

Don't use the rubber band trick on a silver-plated horn. Rubber bands are made out of natural rubber, which contains sulphur. Sulphur attacks silver. If you leave a rubber band on a silver horn long enough, you'll have raw brass under the rubber.

Tiny black neoprene gaskets or very short chunks of aquarium air hose are better choices.

Screw the two nuts together and they will stay put. I put a drop of nail polish on the end of the rod to keep from accidentally loosing them.

Wow that is very interesting about the rubber band theory. Someone sent me a MINT trumpet one time with the slides held in place with a rubber band. It took me forever to get the black mark off that the rubber band had left. I didn't realize it had those effects on metal!

yea really jophst didnt know something as meaningless as a rubber band could do that damage....well i guess for all those raw brass lovers theres a inexpensive way to strip your horn...even tho it might take forever lol
