Does anyone have a link to a good gold plating company? I was thinking of gold plating my inner bell in my Strad 43 Silver. Anyone ever do that? I know Bach/Selmer did this on one of their limited edition horns. Wonder if it sounds much deeper? Thanks! |

Ahh I had a site for you but I forot they dont do bells. it was goldchops if your curious
As far as a gold inner bell I had one on my old conn trumpet. I think it gives off a sight warmer tone than a silver bell would. Its more personal preference cuz when I put down the conn and went back to my old instrument before I got my bach strad... I didnt miss it.

I 2nd Tom Turner's vote of Trumpet Chops ... I'm about to send my horn to them for a little gold touch up as well as that micro lapping procedure. I wonder how that works on valves.
I've heard nothing but joy and praise about the work they do though! Very professional as well! _________________ Bb - Yamaha Xeno 8335RGS

I think you will just get only a cosmetic difference in the horn, with no change in the sound. Gold plating is normally done as a very, very thin layer of gold over a base of silver plating, and the thickness and mass of the plating is similar. There will simply not be enough change in thickness or mass to affect the sound.
If it is done well, it will look great - and that is the only reason you should consider doing it.
