hey have a look at this thing that came up on ebay today. it looks like it has berlin valves, and i dont think they have been made for a while! i havnt seen anything like it before, when doy think it was made?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2374940883&category=16214

for thoes of you who dont know berlin valves were invented before our perinet valves and before rotarys as well i think (possibly around the same time!) they work in the same way as rotary valves apart from they move up and down instead of around. notice all the slides are at the same level on the valve.

have fun, sam

I'm not entirely sure...these look not so much like berlin valves, but like they are just very short action, because of the design and slide placement. I've never seen anything quite like this...

the listing describes it as a prototype, short action valved instrument. that doesn't sound old to me.
