I hate to drag up ancient posts (ok, not true - my record says otherwise!), but I thought that people might like to know that volume 2 of The London Trumpet Sound is now available from Cala records.
As on the first CD, some amazing playing from some of the greats.
The piccolo parts venture into heights that few will be able to hear (except maybe some passing dogs!) and the technical displays are enough to frighten most of us mere mortals away!
My highlights from this album include Mambo Caliente (including some very tongue in cheek additions from the arranger), I Heard It Through The Grapevine and a version of The Carnival of Venice that needs to be heard to be believed. John Wallace and Roger Webster seem to compete for the final word in this arrangement. The cornet / trumpet battle is quite outstanding!
Well worth adding to your CD library! |

Whilst there are many world class musicians on this album, I was disappointed that a handful of London's best trumpet players did not feature. Derek Watkins, John Barclay, Noel Langley, Andy Crowley to name a few. |

From my understanding of the way these recordings were done;
They booked a recording venue and a date.
They then asked which trumpet players were available.
They then got those players on the album.
This is no offence to those players on both these albums (there are some amazing players on it), but there are, as you pointed out, some people missing. |

I noticed this in HMV a while back. I think I might look it up again.
It may not have every single great London pro on it, but it would be a pretty long CD if it did! |

With all the London pros they could have included the Malcolm Arnold's "Hoffnung Fanfare" - you need 36 players for that one!!
I have a set of parts for this piece (along with masses more Trumpet Ensemble music) and hope to put this on at some point, all volunteers welcome. |

Jack - trust me, when I can get enough time together to sort out a venue, I will be putting on a major trumpet ensemble concert, featruing this piece. I will be posting on TH as soon as details are sorted out. All THers (and other trumpet players) welcome. |
