That band director - like too many band directors - should be a lot more concerned with the band playing in tune and other fundamentals than having them play charts that are beyond them. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I just watched this and i almost fell on the floor laughing, Check this dude out !!! would have been funny if he passed out in the end !
Yup - all the requisite elements - sounds as bad and musically useless as most "listen to me play double-C" youtube videos. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I've never actually fallen over, but I think I did kind of a pass out sitting in a chair once during a concert. It took me a bit to get my wits back together.
I've also had a couple of times where I just had to let a note go because I felt myself going, and a couple of other times where I had to lean up against the back wall to keep myself upright, but never fully out on my feet though.
RobertP, I agree with you - I'm all for a good challenge, but I don't like to assign music that is clearly beyond my kids' ability to play it. _________________ Patrick Gleason

Some teachers recommend always taking a big breath, while some people are dismissive of that idea, and think you should only take as much as you need to get through the phrase to the next breath. But powering the trumpet is not the only reason for breathing, as surprising as that may be to some players.
You can have plenty of air left to sustain a high note, while at the same time your brain is running out of oxygen. But who needs oxygen? _________________ '75 Bach Strad 180ML/37

I've had to take a knee a couple of times, trying to sustain notes forever because the mindless drummer wants to carry on at the end of a tune at the end of a set or the evening. I remember one time when i was barely into my comeback playing Hard to Handle and i was holding probably a C# or something, nothing that high and the tunnel started to close, went to down to one knee and the drunks in the bar cheered because they thought i was bowing !!!
regards,
tom
PS - i can appreciate the man playing the DHC, it's not the best sounding or musical one for sure, still think it is funny to watch, but he can do it and i just can't yet. I'm still stuck at DHG. Poor me !!

If you could never do it better than the guy does in the video you'd be better off with a solid, musically useful high G. There's little practical difference between not being able to play a dub C and that guy's raspy, craptastic, unstable trainwreck of a dub C. Which I doubt he could pull off at all in a performance situation and the poor audience's ears if he tried. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen
