|
|
So this isn't easy to admit, but I'm not very familiar with trumpet music. Everyone tells me that listening is one of the most important things you can do as a musician, but I just dont know where to start! Who's good? Who's not? I've been struggling for a long time to listen and I think it's starting to affect my practicing (infrequent, not driven at all, etc.). So my question to you fine people is, who should I start listening to? Classical and Jazz players are appropriate. A list of who and specifically what albums they've put out would be greatly appreciated! |

Search for yourself, find out what you like, then ask specific questions. You'll not learn by broadly asking the internet to tell you what you should know. |

It might be as interesting for you to listen to recordings of different players playing the same pieces.
For example - listen to Wynton Marsalis play Carnival of Venice, then listen to Maurice Andre play it... then listen to Wynton play the Haydn concerto, then listen to Maurice play it.
(I know there are recordings for all 4 of these on youtube).
Note the differences between these two, despite both being superb players, the can be really quite different.
If you find this useful, I'm sure someone could suggest additional head-to-heads you might find interesting. |

What led you to want to play trumpet in the first place? Listen to that, intently and carefully. _________________ Dan Pearlman

I like to go on YouTube/Spotify/etc. and look for playlists. _________________ ATB
