Does anybody know where to get the Bach 3rd valve slide stop rod nuts? How much do they run?

Does anybody know of an alternative that you can get at a hardware store? Thanks.

Any music store that carries Bach trumpets should have them. They cost $2-3 a piece.

You can get them online for a buck and a half, plus shipping, at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_pid/462638/sourceid=qDQ4QCK@RNxwAmJzeYK2/befree_site_id=0040006521?bfinfo=OI_orchestra_band_instrument

Osmun.com used to have them, but I don't see them on there anymore. Maybe you can call them. If you are stuck, I can get them through the Allied Supply catalog.

The threads on the Bach #3 slide stop rod are 5-40. On my UMI Benge, the thread is also 5-40.

Here's a little business card sized document I put together with all the Bach thread sizes:

Hi,

I discovered, around 1977-78 that (then) brand new Bach stop nuts would also fit on my four-digit serial number 1972 LA Benge.

Hope this helps but heck . . . at just a few bucks, everyone ought to buy a couple so that you'll have two to tighten against each other even if you lose one or two eventually. It's much better to have extra nuts than one day sit your horn on a stand and hear that third valve slide bounce about three times loudly on the floor and discover a wicked dent!

Tom Turner

PS: I ordered a couple of extra Wild Thing stop nuts, in gold, after I bought my goldplated Wild Thing . . . so I'll put my money where my mouth is. I still have 'em too--I've never needed 'em . . . YET. After special order to Kanstul, who made 'em and plated 'em, they cost six bucks to get back across the country, including shipping. It sure beats a dented horn!!!

They also come as part of the Bach custom or care kits.

What I'd like to know is where to get some of the old style brass ones, pure vanity but I think they look much nicer, especially on an old horn.

Dave when do you anticpate you will have some of your slides ready, like to try one on a 1965 37Bb?

Regards
Mark

I believe one of the big music stores whose catalog I once received carried them and other Bach parts...Giardinelli...does that sound right?
