Anyone know the specifics of what Louis practiced in his youth - or any other time? Did he ever work on classical literature, Herbert L. Clarke solos or the like? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I've read that he liked to play operatic arias. _________________ Jim Hatfield

If you are talking about Louis Armstrong, Terry Teachout's biography, called simply "Pops," goes into some detail about this. Louis studied classical music rather thoroughly, was a proficient reader, and his personal collection of music on reel-to-reel tapes included a great deal of modern classical, like Bartok and Stravinsky, if memory serves. As jhatpro notes, he loved playing those opera arias. Louis was versed in about everything you could do on the trumpet at the time - it's why he was able to push the boundaries of the instrument and the music so far ahead. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet
