http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3702574710&category=41400

Free shipping within the U.S.

Seller (brand new to eBay today) located in France.

Location: England
United Kingdom

No Feedback.

User ID kept private.

Making NO accusations, but does this smell fishy or what?

Sorry for yet another eBay topic. No, not really. Sorry for the poor saps that might get burned though.

I was going to post this auction on the Ebay Forum but this will do just as well.

I have seen this same auction a little over a month ago or so with the same pictures and same auction setup.

It is fraud and the seller will want you to purchase the horn outside of Ebay. .... Western Union of course. The seller claimed to be visiting his sister in the UK at the time of the last auction ... guess he's visiting again.

I would stay FAR away from this one.

Thanks for the post Dave!

Seeing as the serial is nice and clear and it is supposed to have been through andersons I am wondering if they have a record of it and know who the genuine owner is. Seeing as the "seller" can only write in capitals I wouldn't be surprised if he's copied the original advert from ebay. Just a thought.

Some more on this one.

I asked if his free shipping to the US included Canada?

Here is his reply:
Hello there and good day,

I see that you are interested in buying my trumpet, well first you must know that i was recently moved with my wife in London / U.K. so the package will be shipped from here, but you don't have to be worryed about the distance between us because i'll cover the shipping and insurance costs, you have to pay only the money order fees which i think is fair for both parts. If you are interested and serious please give me your best price and if i accept your offer, i will contact you immediately and we start the deal. The trumpet is in excellent condition, no scratches or any damage, i promise you'll be very satisfied. Many thanks for your time and i am looking forward to hear from you!

Kind Regards,

Raul.

Ripoff city!!

If you recall, the idiot selling all those Zeus's for $1 and "contact me first so I can propose ripping you off outside Ebay" was also located in the United Kingdom. I'd put a fiver that this is the same individual using a new approach. Also, if, as the seller claims, he accepts PayPal, why would there be any money order fees? If someone held a gun to my head, I might try this via PayPal since you have some (albeit minimal) recourse, but by money order? Never.

Just out of curiosity, what domain was the seller's email address?

Well damned if he has not up and moved his whole family to France. I sent the seller an email saying that I had a friend in England and would have him inspect the horn. The seller sent me the following....

"Hello there and good day,

I see that you are interested in buying my trumpet, well first you must know that i was recently moved with my wife in France / Paris so the package will be shipped from here, but you don't have to be worryed about the distance between us because i'll cover the shipping and insurance costs, you have to pay only the money order fees which i think is fair for both parts. If you are interested and serious please give me your best price and if i accept your offer, i will contact you immediately and we start the deal. The trumpet is in excellent condition, no scratches or any damage, i promise you'll be very satisfied. Many thanks for your time and i am looking forward to hear from you!

Raul."

Here's my question to him:

Quote:
Nice horn seller I'd like to make sure that you accept Ebay PayPal Visa before I
place my bid. You know with all the scams and dishonest people out here these
days you have to double check just to be safe.

Thanks for your feedback, I look forward to bidding.

and his reply:

Have a great week-end!

P.S. We can use payment via escrow (www.escrow.com) but you have to pay the
fees!

I just sent the following to ebay....

"I believe that this is a fraudulant auction. I sent a message through ebay about placing a bid and received the following....

"Hello there and good day,

This auction fits the pattern of several other trumpet auctions in the past several weeks and months...0 feedback, United Kingdom origin, wire transfer only and a request to contact before bidding, followed by an offer to sell off eBay. Myself and other trumpet buyers have been watching for these characteristics and have been doing what we can to report potential frauds. Several other trumpet buyers have emailed this seller and all have been approached in the same manner. Thanks for your attention.

I asked him about the location of the horn and why he was using a private auction with no feedback. his reply:

Well that draws to RED flags for mefor sure. I suggest everyone stay clear of this one.

Whoever does own this horn, it does look like a beauty .... but it surely does not belong to the seller of this auction.

This baby is history...gone from the ebay site. DEAD. And I believe that we had something to do with its demise. Good for us.
