Hey guys, I will be doing this piece for my recital and I wanted to know if you guys think a flugel is really needed to or would it sound fine just using the Bb. What do you guys think?

Hey,
Dr. Moore played this for our trumpet studio last semester. You definitely picked out a monster piece. He nailed it though, I'll probably never be able to play it. Anyways... the flugel definitely added a lot to the piece... and it played a really big role as well. I'd say to do it if it is at all possible.

I played it a few years ago using a trumpet. It went fine--no one was the wiser. I enjoyed playing it.

Yeah, Doctor Ewald and I listened to the Phil Smith recording of it today and I was blown away. What a monster player. I spent about 2 hours alone just working on this piece, I love it!! I was practicing it on flugel and liked the sound better than only using Bb. Dr. Ewald did tell me when he played it a few years back he did it on Bb for the flugel and on C for the rest. How interesting...

I need to find a music store online to order this piece. I can't find it anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably worth contacting him direct

He has been very helpful to me when trying to obtain some of his music. |

I emailed Turrin about 3 days ago and still no response. I have also ordered from shattinger's in the past but they took way too long for my tastes.

Well you could drive to Shattingers since you live near there... relatively.
But I think the longest it's taken to get me stuff is two weeks or so when it was on backorder, and the Turrin was one that came in less than a week. You might try calling instead of using their online ordering, it might be faster. |
