My local newspaper has a small section that lists birthdays of celebrities. I have absolutely no idea who most of them are.
Todays edition listed Lee Loughnane's 71st birthday. I grew up listening to Chicago and have always liked the way Lee plays. He has always had a nice warm sound. Good, solid player. I love the interview that John LaBarbara did with him some years back about Claude Gordon's methods.
I've seen an interview or two with him as well. He always comes across as a pretty nice guy.
Happy Birthday Lee, many more to come!

Although J. Pankow was more the star performer in the section with what was a blazing sound 'out front' - the trumpet got featured in a more lyrical way, but with the ability for crafting nice solos. When you consider how well all of them worked together as a whole, the conclusion you reach is that they were..fairly amazing.
Just to add - that while various 'Hall of Fame' rock acts didn't age well in the musical sense, Chicago being more mature in character only improved with time. Beatles, Stones, PinkFloyd.. have almost nothing on Chicago when it came to the material, and arrangements.
Lee's tune above and James Pankow w/ Terry Kath vocal :
