What makes a mpc different for a C trumpet? I've noticed some mpc descriptions mentioning a "C trumpet" cup. What exactly makes it different from a B flat cup? Can the mpc be used successfully on a B flat trumpet? |

Beats me ... all the fellow trumpet players I know play the exact same mouthpiece on both horns. Some only change when they need something brighter for pops or jazz type stuff ...
IMHO, I think it's a marketing thing ... nothing to it ... stick with what you have. _________________ Joel Thomas |

Don't know about the cup. The mpcs I use with my NTC have a larger throat, more open backbore, and short shank to help compensate the added resistance and pitch issues I have on C trumpet (any C trumpet). The rim and cup is the same as on the Bb mpcs I have by the same maker (Oakes/Curry).
I have used my Bb mpc on C many times, but not a C mpc on the Bb (just haven't tried). Would probably work fine, once I pushed out the tuning slide in a bit and adapted to the freer blow.

There isn't any difference between C and Bb pieces(unless you talk to Monette players).
All you have to be worried about is the sound you want to make. You might want a small piece for jazz stuff on your Bb and something bigger for your C on orchestral repertoire but you use Bb for lots of orchestral stuff anyway. You might find that certain mouthpieces match your C better than your Bb but there really aren't any rules for that.
Pick a piece(or pieces) that give you the sound you want and they'll work just fine on both horns. |
