I wanted to do a Danny Stiles Tribute web page and was reaching out for any and all information I could get. I have already plucked some off a thread cited here by Google as well as a few other sources. Any info would be helpful and if you have some good quality photos etc. my email address is RussellDDixon@gmail.com ... thanks. _________________ Schilke X3 Bb trumpet

Danny's son Teddy posted on a thread about his dad on Trumpet Master some years back. He also has a post on this forum that I found. Rich Wiley seemed to know Danny fairly well from what he wrote
Back around 76 I did a week long summer workshop at Quinnipiac U. Sonny Costanzo directed the whole program. Sonny was a fabulous trombonist who had played with Woody Herman, Thad and Mel and also with Clark Terry. He had connections and always brought in top notch clinicians.
Danny was there the year I attended. Danny was a very nice, witty guy. He was a great trumpeter. Sadly, Danny had a well known problem with the bottle. He would show up at 8 am and you could tell he had already been drinking. I say this not to judge but as an observation. My father was an alcoholic and I knew the signs.
Danny's drinking never seemed to bother his playing. I really enjoyed the week he spent working with us. He was a wealth information and lot's of great stories. Great memories of a wonderful musician and nice guy. |
