Here is a picture of a beatiful horn. It is an Eclipse Special Edition. There are supposed to be only Five made. This one is Number Two, and was just received by Alanbach. Mine is on order, and is number 4. Probably another four weeks before it is finished. I can't wait to get it.

The Eclipse Special Edition is modeled after the Getzen Super deluxe, or at least that is what I am told. You can see it has a classic look. Leigh is puting heavy copper plate onto the valve slides, etc to dress it up.

Yea, I have seen one and they are very beautiful instruments. I did consider one myself.

My bank manager didn't like the idea however!

You had better sit down for this...

2500 Pounds Sterling. Right now, the exchange rate is horrible, so in US$ that is something like $4500. The standard Eclipse is 2000 Pounds Sterling which is currently $3600. The conversion between Dollars and Pounds has gone up 25% in the last 6 months.

I like this look. I learned to play on the old Getzen deluxe. I like the old Tri-color look.
To bad there will only be five of them.

I thought it kindof looked like an Olds Super Recording with the "tone-ring," again very, very, very nice to look at, and I'm sure wonderful to play!

That horn is gorgeous. I really wish someone would post sound clips. I'm very curious about the tone.

All the best.

Thanks guys for all of your comments......I treated myself to this horn for my 66th birthday and all I can say is, after playing brass instruments for over 55 years, that this horn is so EASY to play. Noel Langley was at Eclipse when I picked it up and his comment was that it was a super horn! Leigh has certainly pulled the stops out on this model! Believe me, it plays as well as it looks.

Did he say "super horn?" Watch out, could be trouble!

But seriously, this is a nice horn to look at and I'm sure it plays like a dream. Congratulations on your purchase.

That is indeed a beautiful horn. I bet it plays every bit as good as it looks.

As soon as #3 gets here, I'll be sure to share my thoughts about the Eclipse Special Edition.

I'll see about getting some sound clips posted, too.

Best always,
Bruce

Not to sidetrack the thread or anything, but do y'all copper bell fans have any trouble blending in a section? I won't go into my experiences as I already have ad nauseam on other posts, but as I don't play in a section I am curious.

Bruce,

You will need to make a trip to fla. That is an Eclipse I want to try. I love the looks. Will there be a Florida trumpet fest this year.

Hi, I may have said to Alan that I thought his trumpet was a super horn, but I am sure that I didn't call it a 'Superhorn' - whatever that means

I just thougyt I'd copy this over from a thread in TM which I posted in reply to questions about the way the Special Edition Eclipses handle. It was going to be p[osted on the Eclipse website but they had virtually sold out before we got around to annouincing their existance! (I think number 5 is still available at the moment).

The special edition Eclipse has all the qualities shared by the entire range
of horns. Stunning intonation, great stability to the core of the note, very
accurate slotting, free blowing, great projection, even tone across the
range, quick response, wide spectrum of fimbres, great balance and feel in
the hands, matchless craftsmanship in its construction, the best valves in
the business, etc.....

The sound is rich, silky and vibrant (hard to describe sounds using words)
and above all the horn looks absolutely drop dead gorgeous. It adds a really classic twist, harking back to the golden age of trumpets, to the clean, modern and elegant lines of the standard Eclipse range.

The effect of the tone ring is basically to add more stability, warmth and
projection to the sound making the large special edition more of a classical
soloists horn - closer in timbre to the red bells but with some of the agile response of the yellow range.

Just my opinion - hope its of interest. Noel.
