There is new member of the Dallas Symphony trumpet section listed on the DSO website: ELMER CHURAMPI (sorry, all caps because i cut and pasted). His youtube performances are first rate, great. Was there an audition? |

Speaking of, anyone know who was playing principal on some recent DSO run out concerts. A friend went and said the trumpet sounded great on Ginastera, Marquez, etc. |

If this were the case, my ribs would probably get me at least to the semi-finals of any orchestral audition!

The audition was in the spring. It was an invitation only audition for a 1-year position to fill Tom Booth’s 4th/utility spot (Tom just retired). |

Actually Cody McClarty won that audition but he then proceeded to win assistant in Fort Worth a few days later and took that job. I assume he took Fort Worth because it’s a tenure track job de not just a one year like Dallas was. |

"Elmer Churampi will begin his job as assistant principal trumpet with the Dallas Symphony" is stated on the BPO website so its possible he was playing lead. |

He may be assistant principal but Russ Campbell is Associate Principal and it's his job to step up whenever Ryan doesn't play lead on something. So it was probably him playing, if not Ryan. |

Nah, it was probably Elmer. You ever heard that guy play? Crazy Peruvian prodigy with some serious experience subbing with the Boston Pops and Chicago Symphony. He was also runner up for Principal Trumpet with the Pittsburgh Symphony at the audition last summer (2017). Since he is technically interim utility trumpet in Dallas, he also may be assigned principal parts if it's his specialty - and since he is peruvian, a concert of latin american music would be right up his alley. Can't wait to see where he ends up next. |

Russell is playing Principal while Ryan is out. He is very good.
Also, Tom Cupples has NOT been sighted on this thread. |
