No, but like almost all cheap and nasties, do yourself a favour and run. Away.

If I had $375 I might buy it just out of curiosity. However I would want to know what key it was. The ad implies it is a tenor horn.

Any ad that includes text like “produces real trumpet tones” is a real red flag to me. It implies that the reader has reason to believe it doesn’t produce real trumpet tones, since one automatically thinks a trumpet produces real trumpet tones.

I was primarily asking because the tuba group at tubanet.org, seem to be in close contact with the Wessex folks. They also seem to say fairly kind things about them. Of course, they are tuba players, finesse is not really their thing.

Wessex is one of many western companies manufacturing instruments in China, and some of their horns are pretty reasonable for the price. And where else can you get a brand-new ophecleide or piccolo trombone?

A friend of mine has one of their ophecleids and is reasonably happy with it.
Of course we don't have a nice vintage one to compare it to.

I figure that if they can make a ophecleid, they should be able to make a keyed bugle, but they seem to have ignored my suggestion.

I would think that a fanfare trumpet would be relatively straight forward after that.

Wessex instruments are surprisingly good for their price. I chanced one of their $900 double French horns and Feel like I won the lottery. A well made, good sounding, good intonation horn that I’ve played in concerts. They offer a reasonable trial period with a full refund if unsatisfied. Shipping was quick and when I ordered was free. Although I haven’t seen a you tube video for their trumpets, there are videos for their tubas, baritone horns and their French horns being played by surprisingly good players who are offer their reviews of the instruments....they’re well worth their price.
