It is very important to move the air through the tubing and through the tone. When we take a breath, it is advisable to take a full one. This is in itself difficult if one has tried to analyze his breathing. Many books have been written about what muscles we move to take a breath and about when we should take a breath. I believe that any time we get our minds mixed up in analyzing muscle action, we're not concentrating on actually blowing the instrument. _________________ Bill Bergren |

There's no need to be concerned with 'moving air' - only be concerned about getting the SOUND moving out of the bell - the process of getting the sound takes care of any 'air movement'.
And yes, do a 'good inhale' when you have time, but it's more important to have enough air, rather than demanding 'full air' for each inhale.

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

Before these books were written, people died from suffocation because they didn't know how to breathe. | Isn't that like drowning in a convertible because it's raining? _________________ veery715
