Not too much out there, and they seem ...overpriced? Any suggestions? Seems odd that they are 2 to 3x the price of a trumpet stand.

I have a K&M one. It is a bit odd how much more expensive they are than the trumpet stands. Might be a question of sales volume, rather than manufacturing costs. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

I started with a KM [correction, make that a Hamilton] Stage Rocker trumpet stand. I taped some soft material around the top end to increase the diameter, then put a black sock down over the shaft, rolling up the excess material to make the whole thing a bit wider. Looks good, works fine. $12 for the stand if I recall; can't account for the sock. _________________ Getzen Eterna 700, Eterna 800

Too Scottish.😉
I never really noticed the price difference, but I use the KM five leg, folds down and will fit in the bell (which is probably not a great idea, but I’m careful, and my flugel is not real high end). It’s pretty stable, the only thing is the bell is close to the floor, so it could be stepped on. Again, I’m pretty careful.

The old standard Hamilton Trumpet Stand works well with Flugels too - $25 neighborhood. Just saw one on Amazon for 20...
I use an old K&M, 3-leg Flugel stand - 3-leg model is lighter, stable enough, and 3 legs never wobble. ( I've been on many "stages" that are not level/smooth, the 5 leg design doesn't always sit level)
The Hercules trumpet stand is also adjustable enough to hold a Flugel-Hecules also makes a Flugel peg - good for your studio-not so much for traveling. Not necessarily cheap, but you'll only ever have to buy 1. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

I currently use a K&M 5 leg stand and have been very happy with it, although I do not store it inside the bell.
I previously had a 5 leg Spider stand for flugel. I wasn't happy with it at all. It was very cheaply made and IMO did not support the bell nearly well enough. Plus, they're even more expensive than the K&M.
Just my 2 cents.

The K&M 5 leg stand works fine. Considering the fact that it lasts forever is its cost ($38.99 on WWBW) really an issue? _________________ HERMOKIWI |

I use an old Hamilton trumpet stand. I adjusted the top shaft as high as it would go and bought a rubber chair leg cap at Lowe's that fits over the stock rubber bumper on top. It fits the flugelhorn bell correctly and the horn is stable and sits straight on the stand. Those are a couple circular pieces of chamois I cut to cover the hard plastic bell rests. Flugelhorn stand on left, trumpet stand on right...

Hercules make great stands. I have several single versions for trumpets and Flugel. And a triple with pegs for trumpet, cornet and flugel. Well made and very stable. _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

I got a Hercules triple trumpet/cornet/flugel stand a few months ago. It works great at home in my office, but unless I were taking three horns to a gig, I would probably just use my existing single trumpet and flugel stands. But I got the triple stand for a good price on Amazon. _________________ Bryan Fields

I'm a fan of the K&M 5-leg, sort of. I do wish it was lighter, had a soft tip, and was less costly. So far I favor it over the others I've seen. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

My K&M flugelhorn stand, which is many years newer than my similar trumpet stand, has a grey soft tip. My old trumpet stand has three legs and is all black plastic, but a newer one I bought has 5 legs and also has the grey tip. I don't actually love the grey tip for the flugelhorn stand; it tends to "catch" when removing the horn and rubs inside the bell, a problem I've never had with either of my trumpet stands.
I also wish on all the K&M stands that the screw grip didn't protrude so far when in storage mode - it's caused problems for me with various cases. _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

I used K&M for a long time. Great stand but the added schlep weight...meh.
The last 20 years or more it's been the Spyder stand for me. Zero issues. Excellent horn support. The only maintenance is a few times a year I'll put some slide grease on the threads. I've also Gorilla-glued the rubber leg tips on - they've never fallen off.
And I NEVER "helicopter" the legs like I've seen a lot of guys do. That's why they stick.
$24 plus shipping from the Thomas of "Roche-Thomas" valve oils.

I use a Spyder trumpet stand with the top bumper removed for my piccolo.
One thing I really like about the 6 legs is they give you a lot of options for placement in tight floor situations. _________________ Tim Wendt

I have been using K&M for my flugel and trumpet for many years.
However, if Tim Wendt above says that the Spyder stands are good... they must be. They look awesome and lightweight. And cheap. Buying them right now... _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

The copper bell on my Kanstul 1525 deformed from sitting on a stand. I would choose to put it on any. Brass bells are probably OK. _________________ veery715

I've heard mixed things about the new Spyder stands here on TH. Let us know what you think.
I have an old Spyder from the 90's. It's great. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

"deformed"?
How?
Any pics? | No pics now. The bell material was pushed outwards by the center support of the stand. I admit I left it there for a couple of weeks before I noticed. My tech straightened it and some other damage caused by my failure to zip the case closed one day. I certainly hurt it more than any stand could have. _________________ veery715

I have a pair of Spyders that I've been using since the early 80's. I cut a hole in the middle of a polishing cloth and put it over the spindle of the trumpet stand to keep it from chafing the bell. They don't store in the bell but they are much lighter than the K&Ms. |

I seem to remember that Monette recommended hanging their horns from the bell crook, instead of using an in bell stand to prevent damage like this. |
