I think this is the coolest photo I've ever taken of my Wild Thing trumpet!

Hey Lee, welcome back!
As always, you have to host the photo someplace else, like Photobucket or where ever, then you can link it here using the Img tags.
I've gotten spoiled by other forums I frequent that let you just drag and drop. _________________ "After silence, that which best expresses the inexpressible, is music" - Aldous Huxley |

Nice instrument! Looks a lot like the cornets that Roy Lawler used to make. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

That's cool, Trent! When's the "Dali" model coming out? Sort of melting all over.

A couple of recent acquisitions: Top - 1955 Conn 10A, Bottom - 1956 Conn 10B. A year apart chronologically, but fairly close in terms of serial #. I really, really like the looks of these horns. They play very well also. The 10A needs a little fine tuning - the receiver is a little loose, but the 10B is in good shape. The 10A has had the lacquer stripped, but the 10B still has most of its original lacquer.
These next photos are a 1957 Holton Super Collegiate I had stripped. I'm in the midst of teaching myself what I can about finishing raw brass, copper and nickel. The first photo of it is how it appeared when I first got it, prior to stripping. Next 2 photos are how it looks now. Still some work to be done.

That is a very eye-catching horn, sounds7!
Who provided the finger rings? They look different than the standard Harrelson ergonomic rings (I like the ones on your horn better). |

Thanks, Brian. It has an overly large leadpipe (bugger than the #7 Marcinkiewicz calls ‘large’, and ML body and a large bore bell ... nice dark sounding and very flexible. Need much more HTOF (Horn Time On Face), But first impressions are very, very good! _________________ Blaine

After 2-3 decades of embracing the raw brass patina, I brought my Bel Canto cornet to its birthplace at Best Instrument Repair in Oakland and had a brushdown as part of the ultrasonic clean.
Dick Akright talked me into this horn (and out of a Mt Vernon cornet) back in 1993 or so. It was my main horn for like 15 years. IIRC Dick said he made a few of them for the Stanford music department. I've never seen another Bel Canto cornet though. Have any of you?

Jason Harrelson said he only made 3 sets of these finger rings so very limited production. |
