Excited to be heading to NAMM next week! I'll be doing the Lick of the Day live from a few different trumpet booths. But, for today, we're going back to simplicity with using a simple digital pattern:

Getting on a plane here in a few minutes to do these Lick of the Day videos live at NAMM for the next few days, but wanted to share today's video!

I know I promised to only post these on Wednesday's so it doesn't clutter the feed. But, there's a lot of interest in what's going on at NAMM on the forum and wanted to give you a peek. We did the Lick of the Day LIVE from NAMM on Facebook and edited them down for Youtube.

A BIG thanks to our own Trent Austin (for graciously allowing me to use the Adams A6 and making a cameo in today's video), Mary Galime & Stephen Wick from my Denis Wick family (yesterday's), and Mike Corrigan & the BAC family for Thursday's video:

In today's line we are targeting the 3rd, but we're using a non-traditional chromatic targeting tool on a mini-target of the root:

Yesterday was a busy one from the moment getting out of bed to the last gig of the night, so I'm posting the Lick of the Day today instead!

Today's line is a Sonny Rollins-esque pentatonic lick targeting the root. If only I could go to St. Thomas today!

Today's line is based off of Wayne Shorter's E.S.P. If you like licks that are quotes from recognizable melodies, then you might enjoy today's!

I'm trying a new format starting today. Some have asked what I mean by targeting a note in a key. That means the line works over different harmonic contexts and I highlight a few of them in the video.

Today features a rolling triplet line targeting the root of the key:

It's the first day of Spring and I'm starting Week #40 of the Lick of the Day! We're targeting the root today and I'm giving some examples of different harmonic contexts it works over. Which one do you like the most?

Today we're targeting the 5th while implying the Vth! Which harmonic context do you dig?

Happy Wednesday!

Today's line is short, but sweet. We're targeting the 5th of the key while implying the bII. I'm also giving a few harmonic context examples as well. Which one do you like better?

We're getting close to that one year mark of DAILY licks and hope you've been enjoying/benefiting them!

Today's line is crossing the bar to target the 5th. Which harmonic context do you like?
