Hello everyone..
Long-time lurker; 1st time poster
I have a Conn "New Wondermodel" cornet , (serial #147339, made in Elkhart IN), that was my 1st horn; given to me by my father who has no idea where it came from. My questions for the all-knowing TH are as follows:
1. When was this horn made? and
2. How much might it be worth?
Thanks so much for any replies. _________________ Calicchio 1S/2S

There is a wealth of information in this site...
http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/
I believe it is run by someone who regularly posts here.
If you will root around there, you will find serial number lists, model names, etc. Sorry, I cannot help you regarding the price.

A good way to check on prevailing prices is to search eBay for a similar horn, then click on Completed Item on the left side of the page. That will bring up all recent sales and their winning bids. _________________ Jim Hatfield

That serial number dates to 1917. The New Wonder is the 80A, later renamed Victor (and briefly Victor New Wonder). Yours being a very early model may make it a bit more valuable, however, the 80A was in production with only minor changes into the 1970s (the biggest change being 1955 when it gained a lot of weight which was fashionable at the time). So it probably isn't worth as much as it ought to be. Of course value depends to a great extent on condition.
If I were you I would keep it for yourself, and take very good care of it. I would be very careful about replating it.... doing so will make it look much better, but often makes it worth less if it isn't a total disaster as is.
Regards, Christine |
