I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, so moderators, please feel free to move it to a more appropriate place.
This is a bit delayed, but I wanted to say "Thank you" to Mark Metlzer of Metzler Brass for his help with my son's Schilke S32HD.
During the last marching show of the year, the struggle sequence of the show became a bit too real, and he slipped and his chest landed squarely on the mouthpiece of the trumpet, which was pushed into the turf bell first*. Ouch! For both him and the trumpet. They were both able to finish the show injured, including the solo immediately after that ends the sequence.
The bell was creased in at least two spots, and the bracing barely attached both fore and aft the valves, and was bent slightly backward and upward overall. (I have pics, but don't know how to post them).
I received estimates from Mark and the Schilke factory, but Mark did it faster and cheaper, included whole horn refinish which fixed up some worn spots where it is held on the valve casings. The horns looks and plays as good as new! (I have pics of after as well)
So Mark, thanks for all the help. The horn is great and good as new!
*Let's not debate the merits of using good equipment during marching band. This was a total fluke, in my opinion, as is happened _during_ the show and not while goofing off and there was barely a scratch on the horn through two years of marching and pep band.[/img] _________________ Stephen

Yes, Mark is a very fine repair man. I have sent people his way who were moving to Indiana. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

Thanks for sharing. Sad story with a happy ending.
Mark Metzler did a great job restoring my 1965 Bach Stradivarius last year.

Instruments were made to be played. Accidents can and will happen, whether it be with instruments, electronics, vehicles, etc. Your son is fortunate to have a supportive father. |

Mark is an excellent brass specialist. He did a beautiful job restoring my Conn 48B Vocabell and 38A Victor Special. |

Thank goodness for your son and the horn being taken care of. I had one horn over 50 years ago in h.s. and that 36b was used for everything. If it would have gone down I would have had to rent. I am glad he could get it repaired, especially if he loves playing that Schilke. _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,

Mark Metzler restored my Bach Strad to like new condition too. He does great work along with Robb Stewart, Charlie Melk, Rich Ita, Steve Winans (Dr. Valve), and the guys at Anbrass (formerly Cambrass).
A few others, including some who post here, have a good reputation too, but these are the ones that I have had personal experience with so far. |

Last year I watched Mark step away from a party and, without benefit of his extensive shop, using only the host's fairly basic tools, repair damage suffered in transit by another guest's century and a half old, not exactly sturdily built, cornet. In maybe a half hour, despite fragile old thin brass and holding the horn in his hands the whole time he worked on it, the damage was gone and the horn looked great. Mark has some serious skills. _________________ Ron Berndt
