I can die now.
I've been looking for this horn for years, knowing that I would probably never touch one, let alone own one. Only 4 of them have popped up for sale in the last decade. There are only 9 of them that I know of existing in the world and Chris Botti owns 4 of those.
Here it is - my "new" 1941 Martin Handcraft Committee #3 large bore trumpet, in as close to pristine condition as I have seen:
The valves are awesome, it plays like a dream and it even looks good to boot. It was re-lacquered at some point, probably in the 40s or 50s, and looks appropriate for the period. A few little dings, and that's it. The guy I bought it from said it was his grandfather's horn, and it has been sitting in a closet for the last 40 or 50 years.
Work is over. I can go play now...... _________________ Taylor Chicago Standard • Getzen 900 Eterna Classic • Yamaha 731 flugelhorn

Chris collects horns now? And he has 4 and a half?
Anyway, congrats on a nice find! |

Ha! Pretty close, he has 4 of them - the one he plays and 3 backup horns. _________________ Taylor Chicago Standard • Getzen 900 Eterna Classic • Yamaha 731 flugelhorn

Congrats! That is awesome and definitely a once in a lifetime event! Enjoy the horn, and I hope one day get the opportunity to see one. I recently had a similar experience when I found my MHC #2. I wasn't even looking for it and there it was. It was a great find for me. What a site to see another Large Bore MHC pop up in the world. Awesome! _________________ Schilke X3 1983

"I can die now."
Congratulations on your find. Leads to one question: After you do, can I have your stuff? |

I wish I could get several copies of my horn! I worry about the day the leadpipe goes on it. I tend to squirt Al Cass down the receiver at the end of most practice days - I should buy stock in Al Cass Oil... |

PakWaan - do you happen to know where this horn is now? Believe I saw a post that you let it go! Would love to hear your thoughts on it! Would you mind if I sent you a PM?

What specifically about this instrument makes it rare? The year/bore combo? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

Without mentioning the rarity of this horn one could spend hours just imagining the stories a horn of nearly 80 years could tell about the practice sessions, rehearsals, and concerts played. Each old horn has a story to tell. All we can do is add good pages to the book. In trumpet archaeology terms this is like finding Tut Ankh Amuns burial chamber. Enjoy the horn, richly. _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,

Both the year and the bore. But more the bore size.
Both rare and in demand. If anyone has one hit me up as I have willing buyers. _________________ Martins:

The Martin Handcraft Imperial trumpets of the late 30s to early 40s are very similar in intonation and sound like the Handcraft Committees of the same era. If anyone wants to get a similar playing horn like the HCCs but don't plan on paying more than 2000 for one, look for a nice HCI preferably with the "M" bell version in between the "Lion Paws" in the bell engraving.
There is one listed in on eBay at the moment by GAMON BRASS that is a Handcraft Committee and is basically a crossover/transitional model with the body of a late 30s-early 40s HCI but has the bell and leadpipe/reciever of a Handcraft Committee. The bell engraving is not like anything I've seen on other HCCs. Look at the pinky hook mounting on the second photo of the listing, very strange.
