Hi all-

Most trumpet players have probably made a recording of themselves at one point or another. It can be a very useful method of fine tuning your own playing. I often hear things in my recordings that I'm not aware of when I'm playing.

Anyways, what I am asking is what do you all use to record yourselves? I am currently in the market buy a new recorder and I am looking for some ideas. My old cassette player isn't cutting it.

I have heard good things about mini disc players, but I would like to be able to transfer tracks to my computer, as well. This way I can burn a CD if I please. If anybody has comments on this topic, please share.

Best regards,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No offense, but these things have been covered lately on four separate posts . . . three of which are in the "Toys" section. There's lots of great information to be gleaned from prior posts on the forum and you can find this stuff quickly using the "Search" option on the mustard colored strip above.

I think you will find the needed comments there, if not, e-mail me and I'll be glad to answer further questions (as will Don I'm sure).

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Tom Turner

If you need something to carry around then get a mini disc player.. you can get a sony for under $100.00. If you need something just for home than get a CD recorder.. tascam or HHB.. I have the HHB and it's great.

Oops.

Thanks Tom. That's what I'm looking for.

Next time I'll try the search.

Kenman- do you own a mini disc player? If so, is it possible to tranfer the recordings onto a computer? I have heard they record with good quality. I'm also planning on getting a mic.

Quad C - sounds great, maybe somedady...

Just ordered the TASCAM POCKETSTUDIO-5. The reviews are overwhelming for such a compact unit. Four tracks of 24 bit digital recording on Smart Media Discs. Built in Condenser microphone, built in USB port to load down into your computer under MP3 files, built in effects, and it even can be used as a midi sound module. All this in the size of a unit slightly bigger than your hand. It goes for about $490. The Smart Media Cards are a little pricey though.
Can't wait to start loading down some sound files. Just thought you might be interested in what's out there. FWIW

I stumbled on a pretty interesting Website with a discussion forum for people who are into recording. It's http://www.mtlc.net and it might answer a lot of questions for anybody who's trying to set up a home studio.
