I'm checking out a new horn (Bach CML/229 converted to Eb/D) with a tuneable bell and interchangeable leadpipe, and I'm very curious who may have done the conversion. The seller didn't know and a few guys have said it wasn't their work. Look familiar to anyone? Check out the photos:

Plays like a Strad C trumpet and plays surprisingly in-tune. Whoever did it is a champ! |

It was done by Dick Akright. He did them this way because he felt changing the leadpipe produced better results than changing the bell and slides.
Years ago I tried one of these conversions in his shop in Oakland. It was an incredible horn, and if I weren't in the market for a Bb I probably would have purchased it.
The Bb I ended up purchasing was one he converted to a tuning bell, and it used the exact same tuning rail mechanism, and bell receiver assembly.
What is the asking price? _________________ -Tom Hall-

Good eye! Thank you so much. No joke - the tuner barely moves going up the scale on both sides of the horn. He did an awesome job. I think I'm gonna keep it, but if I ever put it up, I'll let you know! |

Ah, I misunderstood.
I got the impression you hadn't yet purchased it. _________________ -Tom Hall-

Hello all,
This is the way Dave Monette did his C conversions when he was in Salem, Or. _________________ Christian K. Peters
