What are your favorite lead mouthpieces? I do not own one and and I am interested in purchasing one. Any recommendations? |

If I recommend what I play, it may not work for you. Play what works for you.
I know players that play lead on Bach 3C's and players who play lead on a Marcinkiewicz Shew #1. What are you playing on now?

I find i can do most things on a 3C type mouthpiece. For very high playing or a very compressed sound I have always used a Jet Tone MF. However, I changed this year to an Ingram V Cup which I find a bit broader. _________________ Bb - Scherzer 8218W, Schilke S22, Bach 43, Selmer 19A Balanced

My favorite lead mouthpiece is a Karl Hammond Design Haas. I have tried nearly every other brand, but I always come back to HD. |

I’m also a fan of Hammond Design mouthpieces. I recommend trying one of his S cup pieces in your rim size. Remember, lead playing is about SO much more than hitting high notes. _________________ Matthew Anklan

My favorite lead pieces are Reeves 43ES and P10 and the vintage Purviance 6*3 , I have try almost anything in the market and those pieces are the most efficient.

I highly recommend trying a Stomvi-USA lead mouthpiece with a CC backbore. I own a Lynnflex CC and S6A CC (rim modeled after the Schilke 6a4a). The sound and blow are so even from top to bottom, and I don't feel like I sacrifice anything in terms of tone and articulation. Definitely worth trying!

The Marcinkiewicz E8 Rick Baptist model has a very comfortable rim and a lot of sizzle. I don't play lead so I gave it to my son and he loves it. _________________ Bryan Fields

Don’t worry too much about the lead mp, his Bach C is after his 5 posts in the marketplace.
BTW this question is certainly not new but it's popular because it has a built-in opportunity to show that you are a lead player, which seems to be important for the needy. |

In one sentence: Whichever one works and sounds best!...
...mouthpieces are so personal, especially once you get into a mouthpiece for specialty playing. I like tighter backbores and narrower rim diameters than my all around MP better for lead, but nothing extremely shallow. Moderately shallow is enough for me.
One morning trying mouthpieces at ITG years ago did more more good than all the years combined I spent on mouthpiece safaris. _________________ Jason Rahn
