Yep. 5:32am, justbefore walking the dog. I should do some Strauss excerpts maybe? Or high register work? I know... natural trumpet elephant drills!

My neighbours thank you!

I've gotten what I feel is very good advice about embouchure formation and usage from this forum, and through follow-on web searches that led to other helpful sites and documents.

If a player is unknowingly using a 'wrong' or 'limiting' technique, then the value of 'practicing' that technique is not likely to yield the desired results.

Actually, this site can be pretty valuable, as long as you read very carefully what everyone recommends and do the precise opposite.

I agree that this site is excellent as a learning tool and for information that may take one in a new direction when encountering a problem. I have found advice and postings that lead me to useful sites, wonderful music to listen to and absorb, and all kinds of interesting discussions. It is nice to have a community of trumpet players.
Is it a substitute for practice? No. However, it has helped me shortcut various problems and find solutions that got me further faster in my practice.
Thanks TH.

Come on man. Where is it written that the time spent here is time taken away from practicing? So if I’m sitting in my car between sales appointments, or sitting on my cruise ship balcony (now), or whatever whatever whatever, I’m taking time away from practice?

Absolutely, some people don’t put in the practice time they should, some do, but I don’t think the internet can be blamed for every human failing.

This is actually true! During baseball season I have the ballgame on when I practice in the evenings so I have something to do when I'm resting. But in the offseason what else am I gonna do? Fart around on TH, that's what I'll do.

And that take a LOT of very careful reading, and doing what is suggested!

Reading some other sites (especially Reddit) I'm almost forced to conclude the internet actually CAN be blamed for every human failing, lol

Shame then you wasted the valuable practice time to make a forum post about reading forum posts. Dammit so did I

Many of us would extend the kind, friendly recommendation that we all should try to be cordial and polite to one another and make the best effort in the quest to not start unnecessary arguments and/or be overly critical, or potentially disputatious, with our opinions and criticisms.

I don't know...it sounds good on paper

I am 69 years old and found this site around 3 years ago. What a Godsend it has been. YOu can learn things of a technical nature, historical, and practical as it relates to being a musician. Yes, there is no substitute for practice. In here one can get several hints or advice from very experienced people to try out and sometimes even solve a problem with. If a website such as this had been around over 50 years ago when I started college I believe the depth of knowledge I had would have increased a bunch.
