Hi all

I played one of these at a shop recently and really enjoyed it. Would love to hear feedback from anyone who has bought one and used it on gigs.

Particularly interested to hear how it worked in a big band setting, did it blend OK and what's the sound feedback for the player like? Am currently playing on a Bach 37 with a modified leadpipe, i love the sound but it backs up on me a little up top, in the shop at least this new Yamaha felt so easy to play.

Many thanks

Jake

I have one, using it in a big band, presently lead chair. Chose amongst many trumpets, Bach 1B Commercial, Yamaha LA model, van Laar B5, B3, other Bachs, and many others.
I fell for this RC because of 1)the warm huge sound 2)the really great feedback - this horn does help you 3)the ease of playing made possible, 4)the fine intonation 5)a resistance that is perfect for me (the Bach 1B had less resistance me behind, otherwise a fine horn).
It projects very well, no problems cutting through a big band, at the same time posible to play lyrical passages more cantabile, warm, reaching out. As a plus I wouldn´t hesitate to use it in a more classical setting (Hayden etc), because of the clarity of the sound.
Oh and it´s amazingly cheap in comparison to the Bach 1B (which of course is ridiculously expensive).

I bought mine from: https://brass-spec.se/
Thomann in Germany: https://www.thomann.de/se/bb-trumpeter.html?price-first=0&filter=true&manufacturer%5B%5D=Yamaha
The horn was concieved&deloped by Yamaha´s department in Hamburg, Germany.
As far as I know there is a huge demand for these horns so you may have to be patient. But it´s worth it. In my opinion at least.

This model isn't listed on Yamaha's US website. Anyone know why that is?

What would you say is the best lead/commercial horn the Z model, LA model, or RC model. And can you even get the RC in the states yet??

I live on the far side of the ocean so getting a RC a year ago wasn´t that difficult. But they have become very sought after over here!
As I wrote - I tested both (LA and RC). To me, amateur status, the LA demanded more air, had a trifle too less resistance. Resistance a very significant variable, personal taste should be decisive. The LA, to my ears seemed to offer a somewhat richer/bigger tonal spectrum - but thus demanding more input. My buddies in the big band said the RC sounded warmer than the LA. The RC was the perfect fit for me - hard to generalize but in my opinion the RC should be better suited for lead work/legit and the LA perhaps better in the hands of a very professional soloist. Reason being the RC more instantly playable, no issues in handling, just play and the horn will assist whatever you do. And that at a far lower price..the RC surprises me every day!
