|
|
So, I’ve got my new horn (Getzen Eterna Proteus) and am having a great time breaking it in. I'm taking lessons and joined a New Horizon's band. Now my question is should I sell my student Bach TR300h2? Keep it as a back-up or sell it and buy another as a back-up? Thoughts?
Thanks, Dan in NC |

Definitely keep it. If there’s nothing wrong with it-it’s nice to have a back up horn that you already know _________________ a few different ones |

Congratulations on the new horn. I like the Proteus.
I agree with Dennis78. Keep the TR300 as a backup horn. You might have a gig, where you don't want to risk taking your new horn. You might have a gig, when your Proteus is in the shop.

I'd keep it until you happen on another horn that like better. It's good to always have two horns you like. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

You're not really in trouble until your 2nd backup horn has several sets of backups. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

What all the rest have said. You'll really appreciate your back up horn when the Getzen makes an unplanned trip to the shop.

I second the idea of keeping the student horn. It is always nice to have a backup. When you get a stack of backups you can start thinking about trimming. I always use a backup horn in "dangerous" situations where I do not want to risk my favorite trumpet. Though I have a backup pro horn, I also still keep my original student horn and an intermediate horn I used for a number of years. It is kind of an interesting touchstone to go back and play them every once in a while to see how they perform with what I have learned since moving on. They are also great for lending to young players who might be interested in trying trumpet. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Definitely keep it. I've been considering getting a backup horn myself, in case my Selmer ever needs to visit the shop. |

Sounds like you may have a bad case of G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome), in the well known variant of T.A.S. (trumpet acquisition syndrome). There is no known cure except running out of money, and even that has been known to fail. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

The Bach TR300H2 is a damn good student horn and for the first 3 years of my comeback it was my main band horn the first year and was an alternate in the next two years.
I'd still have it but a friend who played 2nd trumpet in the band was using a horrible used horn and his wife convinced me to sell the TR300 to her so she could give her husband a newer horn for his birthday. His playing saw an immediate improvement with the TR300. _________________ GeorgeB
