Is there something odd going on with photos? I don't see the ones above.

Bel Canto LB Cornet. Birthdate unknown, but I bought it from the maker, Dick Akright, in summer 1993.

I took a few glamour shots of my 1890 F. Besson London Nouveau Etoile model A/Bb/C cornet today. It’s a neat old instrument, and plays surprisingly well to be 130 years old. It’s listed on the Galpin Society of 19th century Besson instruments known to exist. The surviving company books list this one as shipped to Carl Fischer, New York, in December 1890. Here’s one of them...

My grandfather's old horn: a medium-bore Holton New Proportion Long Model in B-flat from 1912. Not in too bad condition given its age...

Nothing exotic about this 1961 Reynolds Argenta cornet, though the excellent condition is unusual. Shown with a King Silver Sonic for color compare. The color is between brass and silver.

Long time lurker, here. I figured I may as well start with a picture.
The coolest thing about this 1958 Conn 80a, is the condition it's in. I picked it up a couple of years ago, and I think it had been sitting in someone's closet for close to 60 years. It is in fantastic shape.

The coolest thing about that horn Dave, is how it sounds. But you are right--it looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for posting the pictures--hope you play the hell out of it. |

I enjoyed scrolling through this thread very much. Thought I'd post a Concertone cornet that I bought recently. I got it really cheap, and then spent way too much getting slides unstuck and dents in the 2nd and 3rd slide removed.
The valves are numbered 97, 98, 99 and it says Bohemia on it. There is also number "1" stamped into the middle valve. It has a double tuning slide. I'm trying to find which mouthpiece it sounds best with. The one that came with it has a very narrow lip and I find it difficult to play. I tried it with a Yamaha short shank 13E4 and a Blessing long shank 5C. I think I am preferring the 5C, but that may change.

You will love the horn it plays great! Playabilty improved after the fire. Some cosmetic items were less afterwards. Let me know your bore size. I prefer the small or medium bore. Great for small venues. The large bore is more sought after and with the New Invention it is called the Circus Bore model.

This post is ancient, but in case you're still here, I wanted to ask someone experienced with this horn for a bit of information. There is one in wonderful condition on eBay right now, and I really am intrigued by the horn and the relatively low price at which they are available. Do you think it's a curiosity, with the unusual wrap, or is it useable? I'm sure I will still sound mostly like myself at this point regardless of what horn or mouthpiece I play. However, could this be considered a mostly "professional" level instrument that could be used for all around playing? It would be great if there were some reviews of this style of cornet available online.
Best,
Brent |

Photobucket finally deleted all my photos, so they’re gone from all my posts. I’ve downsized over the past couple years and now have just 4 cornets, the “keepers”. 1962 Conn 9A Victor, 1870 Henry Lehnert SARV, 1890 F. Besson London A/Bb/C, and 1993 Bach Stradivarius large bore 184G.
