Hey, if you play a rotary horn and have Vienna keys/Ueberblasklappen you will actually need this. Imagine you play in a major orchestra and are broadcasted worldwide (say you have a solo for a royal wedding ceremony ...) and then you open the D key on a wrong note. Well sure enough. Thanks.
Something not much related, I found a while back I could play low notes with the water key open. I quick look showed the small opening was filled with a drop of water, and the lead pipe pressure was too low to blow it out. The film of water seals the water opening and lets the horn play. This works on my Olds cornet when playing quietly. Playing a little more loudly blows the water drop, and the tone fails as expected. |
