The ads and pop ups are driving me crazy. Is this the only way to make the site financially viable? It ruins the experience and makes me not want to come to the site as often. I realize things need to be paid for but this is a drag and cheapens the website. Anyone else bothered by this? Any ideas? |

Have you tried an adblocker? I use Firefox on my iPad and chrome on my PC. this allows me to run an adblocker. On the iPad I have the taboola domain blocked so zero ads. |

FWIW I'm also annoyed by the pop-ups but my monitor is big enough that they don't cover the content. I also used to be in the habit of immediately scrolling to the bottom of any page to read the latest posts and now that gets me pages of annoying National Inquirer level click bait that I need to scroll back up through.
But my position is that I really really value this site. And since it's pretty unlikely that I'd pay a subscription I'll leave it to the moderators to do as they deem necessary. They've done pretty darn well over the years and I'm hugely grateful. Of course if it gets much more intrusive I'll reserve the right to change my mind about all that. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

But I decided to reply about the moderators. They indeed do a good job of moderating, IMO.
That said, they are not involved in the day to day operations, that is all up to the site’s owner and administrator, Todd, user trumpetherald.
Thanks Todd. |

Bravo. I am not above clicking a useful ad now and then on sites. I've seen me do it. But these are super intrusive and also pretty cheesy/clickbaitish. I find that so offputting that it actually repels me from their ads. _________________ ~'77 DEG Dynasty II Soprano Bugle in G
