All sorts of challenges in this one. Dynamics, range, response. Great etude but not easy. |
Lovely tone. I liked the pacing, no rush, getting everything out of it and making it sound easy. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I like the way you handled the staccato markings. The temptation for me would have been to go after them, but you kept it musical. Always enlightened by your musical choices. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Ýour nickname tells it all. I am so amazed hearing your wonderful clean effortless playing. Reminds me of playing cornet in a huge church, sitting there all alone. A serene tranquility hovering above.
Thanks for sharing!

Focusing on hitting center-cut on all the intervals for maximum ping/resonance. Trying to "stay in the pocket" in the triple-tongue section and not point that third triplet note towards the following note (or lift fingers early). Patience. Dynamic contrasts. _________________ Jim Wilt

Fantastic. Wonderful consistency throughout the range. Beautifully presented. The purity of the high notes and the understated low notes work marvelously. Thank you for this one. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Biggest challenge was keeping the 16ths even. Fingers are getting better but still not a strong suit of mine. _________________ Jim Wilt

Really lovely. Your fingers are really efficient, very little movement, something many would envy. I guess you are referring to timing or something else when you say they are not your best attribute, your finger work seems among the best I have seen/heard. Another trumpet player who did not know I was watching your videos mentioned them as being examples of really efficient fingering. So I am not alone in thinking this. Anyway, great work on this one. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

The trickiest part of this for me was the use of vibrato - how far to go to make it sound appropriate. I actually don't think I went quite far enough, but you kind of have to find the zone... I employed a bit more reverb here to try to approximate the sound of a nice hall, which I think works with this. _________________ Jim Wilt

I am out of breath just listening to this one. Talk about an assemblage of nasties and then hitting you with the long slurs at the end. And you got through it musically. You deserve a pat on the back and an extra beer for this one. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S
